”Therefore we ought to give the more
earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest
at any time we should let them slip”—Hebrews
2:1.
The apostle Paul was deeply concerned about the
spiritual progress of those to whom he ministered.
Many times he warned them, lest they should fall, or
let slip away the truths which he had given them.
The word translated ‘slip’ means to ‘drift slowly
away.’ Surely God’s people should take note of this
when so many are gradually letting slip from them
precious truths which they have known for many
years. It is not a lack of knowledge but a lack of
yieldedness and interest that is so appalling. When
we walk in the light, God always gives us more light
to walk in but when light become darkness, how great
is that darkness.
While some of God’s people are pathetically ignorant
of many of God’s precious truths in the Word, yet
many who have had their eyes opened to the most
precious provisions of God’s grace are letting down
and failing to ‘possess the land’ that is before
them. The promises of God will do us no good unless
we appropriate them and make them our own, by faith.
Dear reader, I trust that you are not guilty of
letting the cares of this life crowd out the most
important things: the things of God according to
His Word.
Procrastination and neglect are two chief hindrances
to God’s people in this day and hour. Unless we are
wide awake, the Lord will come in an hour that we
think not. Certainly, the desire of every child of
God should be to be ready when the first trumpet
sounds for the catching away of the waiting ones –
the Bride. Don’t let the truths that you have
learned ‘slip away’ from you, or drift out of your
life. Rather, let them be a controlling part of
your life, that you might be a full overcomer and be
ready for the Lord’s coming.
“And
take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your
hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and
drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day
come upon you unawares”—Luke 21:34.
