BUT ONCE

We go this way but once, O friend of mine,

So why not make the journey well worth while,

Giving to those who travel with us

A helping hand, a word of cheer, a smile?

We go this way but once. Ah! Never more

Can we go back along the selfsame way,

To get more out of life, undo the wrongs,

Or speak love’s words we knew but did not say?

We go this way but once.  Then let us make

The road we travel blossomy and sweet

With helpful, kindly deeds and tender words,

Smoothing the path of bruised and stumbling feet.

 “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith;

 Who for the joy set before Him endured the cross,

 despising the shame, and is set down

 at the right hand of  the throne of God”—Hebrews 12:2

JESUS

Jesus!  Jesus!  Jesus!

Never have I heard a name

That thrills my soul like Thine;

Jesus!  Jesus!  Jesus!

O what wondrous grace

That links that lovely name with mine!

they are the sons of God”—Romans 8:14.

Diamonds in the Rough

Author Unknown

A Diamond in the rough is a diamond sure enough,

For before it ever sparkled, it was made of diamond stuff.

Of course someone must find it or it never will be found,

And then, someone must grind it, or it never will be ground.

But when it’s found, and when it’s ground,

And when it’s burnished bright, that diamond’s everlasting.

Flashing out its radiant light.

O, Christian, please, whoe’er you be don’t say you’ve done enough;

That worst boy-in-the-class may be a diamond in the rough.

CALVARY’S HILL

Three men are hanged upon a hill; but only one man dies.

The other two made rendezvous, and met in Paradise.

And so today, three crosses still, by sin are  lifted high.

God’s Word stands fast as in the past – ‘In eating thou shalt die.’

Upon the cross, men sinful, ill, die cursing God and fate.

They see Christ not.  He is forgot. Their heart is filled with hate.

On other cross, men of good will, repent, and cry ‘forgive.’

Christ on third cross, bears all their loss.

They look to Him and live.

“Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be

accounted worthy to escape all these things

and to stand before the Son of Man”—Luke 21:36.
